Christmas Trees
Noble Firs
Noble Firs are considered an excellent Christmas tree because of their beauty and long lasting tendencies. Its stiff branches make it a good tree for heavy ornaments, as well as providing excellent greenery for wreaths and garland. In the wild, the trees are tall, beautifully symmetrical and can grow to over 200 feet in height. Noble trees are native to the Sisklyou Mountains of Northern California, the Cascade and Coastal ranges of Oregon, and Washington. It grows in middle-to-upper-elevation coniferous forests. Unfortunately, due to drought, high heat, strong demand, and a regional tree shortage, Noble Fir trees are more expensive again this year.
Grand Fir
The Grand Fir is one of the tallest firs of the Pacific Northwest, reaching heights of 300 feet. It is easily distinguished by its sprays of lustrous needles in two distinct browns. The needles are 1 to 1 ½ inches long with glossy dark green tops and two highly visible white lines of stomata on the undersides.
The Grand Fir is a beautiful, thick foliaged Christmas tree and is known for its strong aromatic fragrance.
Douglas Fir
Douglas Fir is one of the most popular Christmas tree species available. They have soft needles with a semi-stiff branch. These soft needles are a dark green – blue green in color and are approximately 1 – 1 ½ in. in length. The Douglas Fir needles radiate in all directions from the branch. These trees have a nice smelling sweet fragrance.
The entire range includes central California, western Oregon and Washington, parts of the Rockies and extends north to Alaska. It grows under a wide variety of environments from extremely dry, low elevation sites to moist sites. The trees can live for a thousand years, largely due to a very thick bark that allows them to survive moderate fires. Thus many ancient old-growth forests contain large Doulgas Fir that represent the legacy of fires that occurred many centuries ago.
Nordmann Fir
A Nordmann Fir tree is a great way to create an unforgettable, magical Christmas! Unparalleled in beauty and in durability, Nordmann Fir Christmas trees have been popular in Europe across the ages. The Nordmann Fir Christmas has excellent needle retention qualities. It is favored for its attractive foliage, softer needles, and its resistance to shedding needles as the tree dies. It has also become a great choice for some families and in public settings where allergies or sensitivity to the typical Christmas tree aroma is a concern as the Nordmann lacks fragrance.
